Large Tortilla Press by Verve CULTURE, Aluminum Street Taco Press and Quesadilla Maker, Aplastador de Tortillas, Tortilla Maker, 9”

I really like the polished finish of this press compared to another one I bought and returned. It works great and makes the tortillas really thin. This one makes good sized tortillas, 7” is about the size in my pics and they could be a couple inches larger. I used precut round parchment, was able to reuse them and didn’t need to clean anything! Bonus! I’m so happy I bought this one.

I bought this to replace a missing tortilla press that I have had for a long time. I used this unit for one batch but it seems very study. It is much more robust feeling and larger than my old one. The polished aluminum is really nice looking. Time will tell but for now I am very impressed. After using this one I found my old one. I will be giving my old one away.

Compared To Cast Iron Press***** COMPARED TO CAST IRON PRESSIf the Verve press is better or not better than a cast iron press is subjective. For my preferences this Verve press fits my needs. I do not want the hassle of having to baby a cast iron press such as seasoning or immediately drying if it gets wet to avoid rust. This is my main issue with cast iron. Aluminum will not rust.My goal is to flatten a ball of dough and make a tortilla into various thicknesses. This verve press did a fine job just as a quality cast iron press will do. It worked for both flour and corn tortillas.***** NOTES ON QUALITYI purchased a cheaper priced aluminum press from another brand and returned it because it was very light weight and somewhat flimsy. This Verve press is lighter than cast iron, but heavy enough to get the job done. It's made of thick cast aluminum and appears to be hand made as stated by the manufacturer. If this Verve press is used as intended it can last a lifetime. It's expensive compared to some other presses, but for me it is worth the price of $70.00 as of the date of this review. See attached review photo.***** NOTES ON POLISHINGI've read about some aluminum presses being coated with paint or another substance and the coating would flake off periodically. The Verve product description says the press is polished. I looked at close up Verve photos in an effort to confirm and it appeared to be polished. If a close up of a painted press is studied it will appear just too perfect. Non-painted polished cast aluminum will not have a perfect appearance.To confirm I sent a message to Verve via their website. See the quotes below:“Q: Is the XL Tortilla Press painted or coated? Or is it just polished aluminum and nothing else? Thanks.A: Hi xxxxxx! Our XL Tortilla Press is just polished aluminum, no coats of paint!”***** NOTES ON DISHWASHERI did not notice any references to a dishwasher on the Verve Amazon product page. NEVER RUN ANY ALUMINUM KITCHEN STUFF INCLUDING THIS PRESS IN THE DISHWASHER. There is a good chance discoloration will occur. This is a known fact. For more info do some research on google or wherever.

The media could not be loaded.  I was excited to order this and very disappointed when I unboxed this. I understand imperfections occur in casting metal, but mine has some extensive pitting. And that doesn’t bother me too much…. but the overall mechanical sloppiness in the design is a deal breaker for me. The handle grinds along a sharp edge, that really should have a chamfer on to prevent from occurring. The top plate is rather loose and sloppy. Last but not least, the hardware used is cheap. The polished look is a nice aesthetic….it is unique looking compared to other presses. But this is a very poor build in regards to the mechanics of actually using it for what it’s made to do. It’s visibly eye catching… sure to catch the eyes of friends and social media… but for the purpose of a kitchen tool… there are better designs at more affordable prices. I’m returning mine. It’s a bummer, and I don’t want to be hating…. I hope the company improves the design because mine is not what I expected for the price.

I have tried a lot of others & this is by far the best. Finally making really good homemade tortillas!

Best quality tortilla press I have used. I have several tortilla presses and this press retired all of my other presses. Beautiful and functional design — easy to use and easy to clean. Makes a better and uniform tortillas —both corn and flour. Simply the best I have seen!

The media could not be loaded.  Debo decir, que aunque es artesanal deberían poner más cuidado en el terminado y en los detalles. La recibí hoy y físicamente no quede tan satisfecha, se ve con rallones y por el precio podrían enviar algo de mejor calidad al momento de verla. No he hecho tortillas, pero ya pronto la estaré poniendo a prueba.

This thing is built right and looks great. More importantly, it does exactly what it's supposed to with no effort. If you want to make homemade tortillas on a regular basis, this is worth the splurge.
