Amazing .....brilliant cook books that I use daily
I had the privilege of eating in a Mowgli restaurant a while back and because my friend was vegetarian we ordered only vegetarian dishes and I was literally blown away! So much so I have bought all Nisha Katona’s cook books and use all of them daily with meat or fish or just veg. I started cooking Indian food from scratch 20 years ago and the meals were pretty good, but using the recipes in Nisha Katona’s books takes them to a whole different level. It’s about flavour. Not heat. Just pure flavour at its best. My hubby is coeliac, my daughter and myself lactose intolerant and I have to be very careful with onions, garlic and chilli and have a shell fish allergy, so all the recipes I have adapted to fit around dietary requirements and they all worked beautifully. Who knew you could substitute onions with English mustard?? I then bought her book called the Spice Tree which educates one about which spices to combine with which main ingredients, ie meat, fish, veg, pulses. Nisha Katona explains the whole concept of Indian cooking in simple words and I really enjoy reading her books as she also explains the Indian way of cooking in India and outside of India. I found buying the spices and dried herbs in bulk a lot cheaper and also making my own spice blends rather than buying them ready made was a lot cheaper too. My pantry is full of big glass jars full of wonderful spice blends that makes cooking so much easier. I find it very educational. I can’t wait for her new vegetarian book to be on sale.

OK but not blown away
We use " The Curry Guy" usually but this was a nice change with different flavours. Easy recipes to make too and very little pre prep needed. Nice for a change, easy to make, but it's OK, im not blown away.

We cook a lot of the curry recipes in these books and they are gorgeous.

A lot of mistakes in the recipes
After watching Nisha Katona on TV and cooked the butter chicken recipe she did on the programme I bought the book. The butter chicken recipe in the book fails to list 500ml of water; fairly vital to create the sauce. Also tried to cook the cardamom custard tart, but cooking custard in a hot (180) oven means the custard scrambles.
