Stay away from Symantec products, unless you like to waste your time
Updated 1/6/2012:I feel like I owe an update to this review. After implementing and running this product at a large organization for the past 3 years, my advice is to STAY AWAY!We have constant problems with various parts of it, and the support from India is ATROCIOUS. I mentioned this to my boss multiple times, but he will not listen. We currently have to reorganize our AD structure because Symantec refuses to sync with it properly. Once again, the support is a big waste of time, and half the time they just give us run-arounds and don't even comprehend the issues.Oh well, since my boss refuses to change, we will have to endure more problems in the future. For anyone looking at AV I would suggest looking at Forefront. Stay away from Symantec products in general. While my previous review was based on the apparent lack of product knowledge displayed by some reviewers, I must now admit that even with good product comprehension YOUR LIFE WILL BE HELL if you implement this software. Both server and desktop teams must have logged at least 20 tickets with Symantec support. Most of these were half-resolved, or took a YEAR to get a fix in a new version.Currently I have a critical AD-sync related case open with their Indian support. It took days to have them even UNDERSTAND what the problem was. They kept giving me a run-around, trying this and that, NOTHING even remotely related to the issue at hand. I had multiple barely-intelligible techs call day after day, asking me to explain what the problem was. WTF?Their support is the worst I've ever experienced. Their development is outsourced to India as well, and handled by another company. STAY AWAY, unless you enjoy things like frozen Bloomberg/Financial apps, data corruption, server slowdown, network over-utilization due to incorrectly applied policies, and assorted CONSTANT babysitting that this product requires.--Here is my advice to anyone who buys an Enterprise product and plans to deploy it: READ THE DOCUMENTATION! Most of the problems described in these reviews seam to stem from user who did not even bother configuring proper policies or disabling firewall/network threat protection for the servers, which even Symantec advises you to do!I have this product managing over 2,000 clients in multiple locations worldwide and it works like it should. Of course, I had to dedicate some time to READ the documentation and plan my deployment, but the product performs very well. Good luck deploying and managing your AVG Free for a few thousand clients (LOL!).While it's not perfect, SEPM is a very good option which compares favorably to the competitors (Sophos, etc). It is a VERY powerfuly product with a multitude of features and hidden settings, hence many users seem to be confused and give negative reviews!

Terrible product
While I believe Symantec is the best protection on the market, I find the new interface to be horrible. As a system administrator it is anything but easy to use. Add to that they charge $3500 for training.

No a proven product in some configurations
I have been a longtime user of Norton Corp Edition products and for the most part have been stratified. It only seemed natural when our current subscription to Corp Edition 10 expired that we move to version 11 also called SEP (Symnatec Endpoint Protection) on our Windows 2003 SBS running SQL, Exchange and Act. After reading the manuals the installation seemed pretty straightforward. This is a very different product from version 10 so defiantly plan to spent some time reading the SEP manuals first. After installing the manager on our SBS via the upgrade I ran the deployment manager to install the clients, which seem to go well on only three of the eight XP-pro clients. I had to manually install the software on the other clients due to problems with Outlook getting mail from our Exchange server. The ant-virus client deployment also failed on the server even when I tried to manually install SEP it seemed the version 10 client would not uninstall. So I followed the lengthy task from the support web site to manually remove version 10 from the server and then manually re-installed SEP. After the install Live-Update kept failing. I talked to Symantec tech support several times and per there request removed all Norton/Symantec products and reinstalling SEP a couple of more times after running a couple clean-wipe utilities they provided but Live-Update would still not work. Symantec eventually suggested I go back to version 10 until some of the compatibility issues are resolved with SEP. After investing over 12 hours on this upgrade and then reinstalling the old version we are now considering moving to another venders product.

Complete TRASH
As a Senior Network Admin at a mid-size company, I can honestly say this product is north worth the CD it was burned on, or the bandwidth I wasted downloading the management console. I DO NOT, as in PLEASE GOD NO, recommend this product by any stretch of the imagination for any size enterprise deployment. You cannot install this on ANY servers due to its suite of products that shut down critical services. Clients see a TREMENDOUS performance downgrade when a full system scan is running on maxed out XP machines running the latest gear, max RAM, etc. Users are still getting spyware/viruses on their machines, to which Symantec only informs of after the fact and then 9/10 times does not let you fix the problem. Network Threat Protection is the devil. I have been a firm supporter of Symantec products for years and years. We use a wide range of Symantec products for other critical business functions and have never experienced any problems. Symantec Tech Support is always friendly, quick to respond, and very informative. However, when calling in for support on this product, I am stuck with the total opposite. Tech Support Engineers have no idea what the problems are, they claim a fix is coming and never does.
